India's BPL Mobile Signs GSM Network Expansion Contract with Huawei
March 07, 2008
Indian telecom operator BPL Mobile announced on March 4 that it has awarded a GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) network expansion contract to Chinese telecommunications network supplier Huawei. The one-year contract is valued at 800 million Rupees (US$19.9 million; US$1=40.2 Rupees), India's Business Standard reported.

Pursuant to the agreement, Huawei will supply BPL Mobile with an array of GSM equipment, including base station subsystems, microwave stations, and routers for use in BPL's Mumbai circle, as well as an all-IP (Internet Protocol) NGN (Next Generation Network) infrastructure for the company, according to the same report. Through this cooperation, BPL Mobile aims to lower its operating costs and expand its GSM subscriber base.
